Detecting the presence of helicobacter pylori
Dietetic counselling (30’)
Gastrocopy if it is necessary

Screening of cancer of the large bowel

If it is diagnosed in time it is almost always curable. Its benign form is polyp. Usually you do not even need an operation to remove a polyp. In Hungary 9000 patients are diagnosed with cancer of the large bowel and 5000 people die in it every year. It is difficult to detect it because in the earlier periods it does not provoke symptoms. This period is some year long that is why it is important to go screening regularly.

Laboratory test

  • blood test
  • estimating risk factors
  • liver function test
  • kidney function test
  • examination of electrolytes
  • urine test

Medical examination

  • taking history
  • estimating risk factors
  • physical examination
  • summary of the records

ECG
Abdominal ultrasound (examination of liver, gall bladder, spleen, kidneys and pancreas)
Colonoscopy (
it is unpleasant but accurate)
Detecting the presence of blood in the stool (
it is not painful, at least 3 samples are necessary)
Screening with enzymes

In this method we detect a special enzyme which is produced by the tumour instead of blood in the stool. If the test is positive you most likely have a benign tumour, less likely a malignant one. But even if the test is positive it is not 100% that you have a tumour because enteritis or other abdominal problems can also cause positive result. If the test is positive more examinations and colonoscopy are necessary.

The tumour is developing for years so it is worth to make the test every year.
