Screening of vasoconstriction and varicose veinsMany people think that visible veins are abnormal, but they are not abnormal medically in some cases. In other cases the symptoms are invisible for a layman, or they refer to other disease but patient has varicose veins. Mostly the disease cause aesthetic problems, which bothers women more. Then it is important that the treatment does not leave traces. If you have varicose capillaries it is only a cosmetic problem. Having varicose veins often causes discomfort and rarely causes pain and cramps of the leg. Unfortunately because it is not painful, it is often detected only in its late state when it cause complications such as thrombosis, brownish skin discoloration, hardening of the legs, non-healing lesions and ulcers.
Screening of predisposition of thrombosis
You should go to this screening if you have hereditary predisposition to thrombosis. To this refers the following:
- venous thrombosis during pregnancy or taking contraceptive
- if you or your relatives have had thrombosis before
- in some cases recurrent abortion
- not expected complications during labour (toxaemia, premature placental detachment, foetal death)
- venous thrombosis under the age of 50
- venous thrombosis at unusual areas, recurrent thrombosis
- abnormal APC-resistance test results
- certified Leiden-carrier in your family
You should not worry if your results are positive, because you can do the adequate precautions to avoid thrombosis. Your doctor suggests you anticoagulant treatment, changes in your lifestyle, other way of contraception, frequent screening of your veins, and tells you the early symptoms of thrombosis. It is recommended to screen your family too because you inherit the mutation from your parents and transmit it to your children.
Genetic test:
- screening of Leiden-mutation
- screening of Cambridge-mutation
- screening of Hon-Kong-mutation
- screening of Protrombin20210-mutation
Laboratory tests:
- activity of Prothrombin
- fibrinogen
- APC-resistance
- Homocysteine Anti – DNA
Vascular surgery and ultrasound examination
Varicose veins are often unobserved until its late state. In these cases we make angiography, catheterization or operation for avoiding serious complications.
You should see a doctor if you have painful legs which are swelling in the evening, or you have cramps or non-healing lesions.
