PCA3 is the most specific test available for the detection of prostate cancer. This is the only gene-based prostate screening test. Of all known testing methods, PCA3 identifies prostate tumour with the highest accuracy. The result is obtained from urine sample.

PCA3 gene functioning is typically specific to prostate cancer, and unlike PSA, the level of PCA3 is not affected by benevolent prostate enlargement and non-cancerous abnormalities. It is recommended in the following cases:
- an increased value of PSA or other suspicious clinical results
- although the result of a previous biopsy was negative, there are still some factors indicating a prostate cancer
- there is a history of hereditary familial cancer within the family
- other cases indicated by a specialist
